Tune-up is a high-volume search term with confusing results. Most articles still talk about points and condensers that have not existed since the 1980s. Here is what a tune-up actually means on a 2015+ car and what each component costs.
What Is a "Tune-Up" in 2026?
On a modern fuel-injected car, a tune-up consists of: spark plugs, ignition coils (if needed), engine air filter, and cabin air filter. That is it. There are no points, no condenser, no timing adjustment, and no carburetor service. All of those components were eliminated when fuel injection replaced carburetors in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
If a shop quotes you for distributor cap replacement, rotor replacement, or ignition timing adjustment on a vehicle from 2000 or later, ask which of those components your specific car actually has. Most do not. A 2020 Toyota Camry has none of those components.

Should You Replace Coils When You Replace Plugs?
Yes, replace coils if:

Spark Plug Wires: Only for Older Vehicles
Spark plug wires only apply to vehicles with distributor-based or wasted-spark coil-pack ignition systems. These are generally pre-2005 vehicles. If your car has coil-on-plug ignition (each cylinder has its own coil sitting on the plug), you have no spark plug wires. Check by looking in the engine bay - if you see individual coil towers on each cylinder, you have COP ignition, no wires.
